Welcome to Furniture Mall's Tips and Tricks, I'm Sarah Williams, visual story teller. Today we're talking about how to transform a rustic stone farmhouse fireplace in 3 easy steps.

Before we start adding our layers, we really just want to talk about the fireplace as a focal point in your room. You're typically rearranging your furniture to surround it and while it's easy to put a TV above it because it's convenient, let's work at creating intentional conversation moments within our homes so we keep the connection with our family and friends alive.

Step 1 - A Statement Piece

We're going to keep this look very simple, so that it's approachable and timeless. I'm going to start with one statement piece. Windmills are quintessential to the farmhouse look, and it's a great conversation piece.  You don't need to add too much to this to make it a statement and a focal piece.

Step 2 - More Than a Mantle

Don't think about your farmhouse fireplace as just a mantel; look at it as a whole, so that we layer down to the ground. If you have a non-working fireplace or double-sided one like we have here, get creative, designing around the windmill.

Step 3 - Build Texture

What's a fireplace without fire and or kindle sticks? So that's where we're headed next. These don't all have to be the same size or the same look. Build texture in a room with non-matching pieces.

Battery operated candles are safety lovers delight. Don't forget to add a space to collect all your cozy knits for snuggling in the evenings.
